Whew. Note to self: totally avoid the "songs we hate" threads.
Why do this? Don't people here LIKE this band?
Lately this place is just full of the mean and nasty. In the rest of my life, it isn't hard to find mean and nasty, why would I need to come here and watch people bashing the Grateful Dead, and bashing each other?

i don't see this as bashing the dead at all. please tell me how i am bashing them in any way. perhaps i should have titled it least favorite song? it's just another discussion topic and people are taking it way too seriously. i see nothing mean and nasty here ring. i think that's a bit of an overreaction. how could you consider this thread to be bashing them, when you had no problem with this thread:

Nothing personal. Maybe it's me. There's just too much of it lately. I'm just tired of logging in and seeing another "So what song do you hate" "So what do you hate most about Bob" "So which song did Donna ruin the worst" "So did Jerry sound worse before or after his coma" discussion. Anyone would think this was a forum for people who don't like the Grateful Dead. It's like if you happen to like a song, you'd better not mention it or someone here will tell you it sucks, or if you post about a show you really enjoyed, someone will tell you you only think that because you are an idiot who knows nothing about music (or you are a mysterious person named "Kochman"). Even though I'm usually a bystander in such discussions, it gets old. Between that and all the interpersonal ugliness, and the obsession with "trolls," which just seems to have nothing to do with anything, for me, it's getting old.

Hey ringo, as a certain Robbie Robertson penned back in 1969, "Just take what you need and leave the rest."

It is difficult at times, but can be done. And the "what you need" makes it worthwhile ...most of the time.

BTW, your contributions here are part of the "what you need" for many of us.

Well put, Ring. You've mentioned the same core reasons why lately I have stopped by with less frequency. There is certainly enough angst that we run across outside of this forum, that when we want to share thoughts, insights and stories about a band that we're still fond of, i/we really don't need, or want, that kind of negativism added to a seemingly blithe conversation mix. It's easy for folks to jump on a trash whatever bandwagon - I've been there myself - but, I agree, a less negative climate would be more inviting to myself and others who have expressed your same concerns. Like with your thoughtful JGB thread the other day, for some, it may be an art or skill in the way a thread can get hijacked - as a shared, and sometimes witty, stream of consciousness - but senseless, selfish diatribes mostly just kill any conversation from going forward and turn folks away. Instead of finding engaging discussions of late, I've become bored and turned off by the tiresome natterings. A lengthy way of saying I appreciate your trying to be a voice of reason - fair play to you.

The behavior you describe has been going on here for as long as I can remember, it's nothing new. It's always the same few people too, who've probably been instigating it since 2004 or so. It's the sole reason why I stopped watching these forums for so long between 2006 & 2010 or so.

Yeah, "least favorite" or "most frequently skipped" is probably closer to what you meant. I don't think any of those are "worst," which sounds like, "a bunch of these are bad, but which one is the very WORST?" (Not that I think you meant it that way at all!)

Taking it as "most skipped among the most played," I'd have to say that would be OMSN, which for the record I think is a good song -- in fact, for a long time I assumed it was a cover of something by Buddy Holly or somebody like that. (I'm not sure that came out right. "It's so good, I thought they didn't wrie it!" But it does have that classic sound.) I'd just call it Most Skippable (and perhaps by extension my Least Favorite on the list) because it doesn't tend to go much of anywhere, and I've heard it a gazillion times, so within that group, it happens to be the one I do, in fact, skip most often.

LLR I skip sometimes, but I do like the jams. I can sometimes skip a Mexicali, though that can be a mistake. And I could stop before a US Blues encore, though I often do like that one too.

There's actually not any song in that list that I don't think is good, and that I don't like from "some of the time" to "pretty much every time."

"Yeah, "least favorite" or "most frequently skipped" is probably closer to what you meant."

It's exactly what I meant, I just didn't articulate it correctly. You're clearly one of the more rational thinkers here. Thanks for the input.

and to ring, just one more note i'd like to add. i only really see the "what's more annoying" thread as somewhat of a bash on the dead, but the thread didn't yield any negativity, just a bit of discussion. and other than that, i'm not one to criticize this band. virtually every comment i make about this band is a compliment to them, and there is nothing wrong with an occasional critique, which is different than just bashing them.

LLR would be the worst song they ever played even if they had only played it once.
